I am a proficient copy editor and proofreader with over 15 years' experience, living in Brighton, East Sussex.
I firmly believe that the quality of the writing on your printed materials and website can very simply mean the difference between engaging your customers and turning them off; competition is fierce in every market these days, so proofreading everything you write is essential, not just a nice-to-have. What kind of things? Everything that's written for public consumption should be checked for spelling, grammar and sense; not just books and magazines. Who for? My work is nicely varied. One day I will be proofreading e-learning courses for the award-winning e-learning provider Kineo, testing them for consistency, accuracy and functionality as well as grammar and spelling, the next I will be editing a PhD thesis for a student at the Nordic School of Public Health, or proofreading an annual like Superbrands. I also work with lots of small businesses in Brighton & Hove and the surrounding area such as Redhead Design, The Rain Harvesting Company, the Learning Consultancy Partnership and Waer Systems, editing their websites, newsletters, policy documents, white papers and any other written material they put my way! Web copy editing has an additional facet in that it has to be Search engine optimised. I have helped many satisfied clients to incorporate key search terms into their web copy without making it seem obvious or clumsy; an essential skill for website copy editing.
